On the island Borkum Consistently pursues ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable development. The island's self-sufficient drinking water supply, fed by a valuable freshwater lens beneath the island's body, is a central component of this concept.
Water is life – and on Borkum a special experience!
With the Water Museum (watertoorn-borkum.de) we are already making the conscious use of drinking water a unique experience. And now we are going a step further: We invite everyone to join the water revolution on Borkum to actively participate!
Drink water, protect the climate
The BorkumEnjoying drinking water straight from the tap is not only healthy, but also actively protecting the climate. By installing six modern drinking water dispensers on the island, we aim to reduce the use of climate-damaging plastic bottles. Our drinking water dispensers are strategically distributed throughout the island, so fresh drinking water is always at hand when exploring. You can also purchase special drinking water bottles that work perfectly in combination with our drinking water dispensers.
Interactive Learning with the Water Master
The drinking water dispensers offer not only refreshment but also access to digital content. By scanning the QR code, water master Tjark Akkermann takes you into the fascinating world of Borkumof drinking water. Here, exciting stories and interesting information about drinking water are shared – always enriched by local, cultural, or historical aspects.
