The North Sea island Borkum belongs to the "Emsradweg family". The cycle path is the unifying link between Senne and the westernmost of the East Frisian Islands. It runs through six districts and is 386 kilometers long. The official starting point is in the Moosheide nature reserve. Fresh, slightly salty sea air, seagulls and windmills are the constant companions on the 300 km long tour along the International Dollard Route, directly on the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site.

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, added the German and Dutch Wadden Sea to its World Heritage List at the end of June 2009.

In 2014, the area around the Danish Wadden Sea extended.
