A paradise for four-legged friends

For dogs and their owners, the island Borkum A true paradise. Three designated dog beaches have been set up especially for four-legged friends, on the north, south, and nudist beaches, where they can romp around among their peers. Proper disposal of dog waste bags is especially important. Trash cans are located at regular intervals throughout the island, and they must be used for this purpose.

Outside of the breeding and nesting periods (April 01 to July 15), dogs are allowed to run free on the beach in designated areas.

Rules for Dogs

    After BorkumAccording to the Hazard Prevention Ordinance, dogs must generally be kept on a leash year-round on public streets, paths, and squares. This also applies to all public paths, promenades, and cycle and hiking trails.

  • dune grass or bird due to breeding and nesting season

    In the quiet zone and intermediate zone of the national park (zones 1 and 2) dogs must be kept on a leash all year round. During the breeding and nesting season from April 1 to July 15, dogs must be kept on a leash in the open countryside, including in the recreational zone of the national park (zone 3 = beach areas). After that, this rule is lifted.

    Our four-legged guests are welcome almost everywhere. Unfortunately, they have to stay outside in Gezeitenland, on school, playground and sports fields as well as on beaches.

  • One paw

    Dog excrement on public sidewalks, in parks and on the beach is a particular nuisance for many holidaymakers and islanders. Please help us keep our island clean and remove your four-legged friend's droppings.

  • bag / bag dispenser

    White boxes with dog bags are available in many places. However, the used bags should not be left in the countryside or at the bag dispensers, but should be disposed of in public trash cans or in household waste.
