With a joint island project Borkum was awarded the ECARF quality seal as the first allergy-friendly island in Europe. The prerequisite was that we create a visible network of tourism offerings for allergy sufferers and their families. As many hosts (hotels, guesthouses, vacation apartments), restaurants, cafés, and retailers as possible should participate and offer services and products for allergy sufferers. What's needed is not a complete package, but rather individual contributions that generally require little effort.
The tourist information office will be happy to provide information to interested businesses (hotels, restaurants, guest houses, holiday apartment landlords, grocery stores). Trained staff at the tourist information office will advise interested businesses and, once the criteria have been met, will award the ECARF certificate. The effort and costs are very manageable, the benefits are great, and the service for the guest is excellent.
