What is an outpatient spa treatment?
An outpatient spa treatment (also called an open spa treatment) is intended to prevent illness when physical or mental health is already weakened. The treatment is intended to prevent worsening and helps you to become really healthy and fit again. With an open spa treatment, you can choose the spa facility and organize your stay in the spa yourself. The respective treatments are then selected together with the local spa doctor. This can be done in the Gezeitenland e.g. mud packs or baths, seawater baths, physiotherapy or massages. It usually lasts around three weeks.
How and where can I apply for an outpatient spa treatment?
Since 2022, outpatient spa treatment has once again been a mandatory benefit of statutory health insurance. It is stipulated in Section 23 of the Social Code (SGB 5). Anyone is entitled to it if there is a corresponding medical need. First, obtain a spa treatment application from your responsible health insurance provider. Your family doctor, specialist, or company doctor, who must justify the medical necessity, will assist you in preparing the spa treatment application to the health insurance provider. Enter Borkum as your desired destination. Then submit the completed spa application to your health insurance provider. After consulting with the medical service, they will inform you about the type and amount of coverage. (This process may take some time.)
How much does an outpatient spa treatment cost?
The health insurance company covers the costs of medical treatment and 90% of the spa treatment costs. Your health insurance company can provide a flat-rate subsidy for the remaining costs such as accommodation, meals, travel costs and guest contributions.
