National Park Ship Lightship Borkumriff

A former lightship that now gives people a light

The lightship used to be “Borkumreef" about 30 kilometers northwest of the island Borkum It anchored on one of the main shipping routes of the German Bight in the North Sea and, with a lighthouse, guided ships from all over the world to the Ems River. Today, it remains a "point of arrival."

It is located in the port of Borkum anchored and one heads there because of the good exhibitions and interesting information that visitors can expect there. In this respect, the "Borkumriff” as an information center and museum ship, people are once again seeing the light today.

With the decommissioning of the Borkumreef on 15 July 1988, the era of German lightships ended. In 1989, the ship was put into operation as a national park ship. As such, the Borkumreef ready for use. But between her missions, she is open to visitors as a museum ship. At the same time, there is a National Park Information Center on board, with interesting exhibitions on the topics "Wadden Sea National Park" and "North Sea Protection".
