Borkumthe tea ceremony in the Toornhuus

A Piece of East Frisian Tradition

The typical East Frisian tea hour – The experience of a Borkumvacation – you shouldn’t miss it.

Did you know that the East Frisian tea ceremony is an intangible UNESCO cultural heritage? East Frisia has been a tea-drinking region for over 300 years. Around 300 liters of tea are consumed per capita annually. The establishment of the tea ceremony, or also called the Elführtje, plays a large part in this. Until the 1970s, it was customary for East Frisians to gather for tea at 11:00 a.m. – a lovely way to spend the day. The preparation and consumption of this popular hot beverage follow a specific pattern that has developed over the centuries. You will learn what this looks like in a lovingly guided tea ceremony with Gottfried Sauer, who will introduce you to the secrets of the famous Borkumhe introduces tradition.

As long as the Old woman Leuchtturm is closed, this event will be moved to the Tower Keeper's House (Kirchstraße 2), right next to the Leuchtturm .

The tea time with East Frisian tea ceremony takes place every Wednesday at 14.30:2,5 p.m. and lasts about XNUMX hours.
